How did you first learn of Donna Aston and her training methods?
As part of the Entrepreneurs Organisation (EO), I was lucky enough to attend a learning event at Donna’s studio, which was arranged by an existing client of Donna’s whom had already lost 35 kilos following her regime.
What was your lifestyle like before your amazing transformation?
I was consumed with my business and made that my number one. My health and fitness was at the bottom of a very long list. This meant that my diet consisted of the following: chocolate (average 1-3 bars a day), pasta, sandwiches with chicken schnitzel, slice of ham and cheese, or with tuna (that was when I was being ‘health conscious”), or chicken, loads of restaurant meals and lots of take away, pizza, fish and chips, Thai, Indian, lots of wine, that paints a picture … yes? Exercise consisted of up and down my stairs at work or at home, the occasional walk, not much else, as I had no time! Energy levels were, as results, atypical of this type of person, up and down like a yo-yo with poor sleeping habits. Stress and work overload together with poor energy levels meant that motivation to do something about my health was short lived and part of a negative cycle that we all get caught up in at some stage.
Prior to starting Donna’s exercise regime, I had a period of about 3 years with no exercise at all. Prior to that, I did see a personal trainer, my first one, for 18 months. I saw him 3-4 times a week and never allowed a session to be cancelled. I was absolutely dedicated to my training, as I wanted to achieve the weight loss I needed. The problem wasn’t my dedication at that time, it was that the results did not follow. For all my input, I had no real output. The reason for this was two fold. Unfortunately, his training methods were not at all suitable for weight loss, in fact, I got bigger, bulkier, to the point where I was looking quite masculine. I would tell him that I didn’t want to get bigger. I got incredibly strong, lifted huge weights, but achieved minor weight loss. The only benefit from this period was when I started Donna’s exercise regime. My lean muscle was ideal and I did not need to build this up. After leaving him, I saw another personal trainer for 3 months that trained me so hard, I couldn’t sit down or get up the next day without excessive pain, and that is not enjoyable training. Then I lapsed into a 3 year cycle with no exercise (I wonder why) and that’s when I met Donna.
How has your progress to date changed your life?
April 23, 2006 I was married, and for my wedding day, I broke the last plateau and came very close to my ultimate goal. I have lost 14 kilos overall and I am so much happier. In fact, it was that weight loss that allowed me to feel good about myself enough to start dating again! It breaks my heart to see others making the same mistakes I did, year after year, when they can choose another road. I wish I had done it so much sooner, but I am armed with a huge knowledge bank now and even though I still have a few kilos to go, I know I will never ever go back to being unhealthy again plus I am no longer a candidate for diabetes and many other ailments that plague our family history.
